4-H TEACHES . . .
. . . citizenship
Cooperative Extension administers the 4-H youth educational program for urban and rural youth from Kindergarten through age 19. The program is guided by the Cooperative Extension staff, but the volunteer leaders who contribute thousands of hours to provide educational experiences for youth are the backbone of the 4-H program.
Young people participate in 4-H through community clubs, special projects, camps, and school enrichment programs. Community clubs are the most popular and traditional methods of 4-H work in Kern County.
leadership . . .
Youngsters are given the opportunity to develop their interests in more than 70 "learn-by-doing" projects. They also gain experience in leadership, community involvement and public speaking through a variety of activities. Although 4-H started as a program for rural farm youth, it has grown to include all youth (urban and rural) in a variety of project areas.
